About This Sacred Site
Voroneț Monastery, founded in 1488 by Stephen the Great in just three months and three weeks, is the most famous of Romania's painted monasteries. Its exterior frescoes, added in 1547 by Metropolitan Grigore Roșca, are dominated by a vivid azurite blue known as 'Voroneț blue.' The west wall's monumental Last Judgment scene is considered one of the finest compositions in European medieval art.
