💧 Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya)
Zambia
About This Sacred Site
Victoria Falls, called Mosi-oa-Tunya ('The Smoke That Thunders') by the Kololo people, is one of the world's most spectacular natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Zambezi River plunges over 100 meters across a width of nearly 1.7 kilometers, creating a mist visible from 50 kilometers away. For the Tonga and other local peoples, the falls have long been a sacred site associated with the river spirit Nyami Nyami. The thundering waters and perpetual rainbow-laden mist create a profoundly spiritual atmosphere that has drawn reverence for millennia.
