The Temple of Pythons in Ouidah, Benin, is one of the most important Vodun (Voodoo) temples in West Africa. The temple houses dozens of royal pythons, which are considered sacred in Vodun tradition and are believed to represent the spirit of Dan, the serpent deity of creation and continuity. Ouidah is the spiritual capital of Vodun, and the temple is a living center of worship where priests perform ceremonies and devotees seek healing and protection. January 10 is celebrated as National Vodun Day in Benin.
