The Shrine of Shah Jalal in Sylhet is the most visited Sufi shrine in Bangladesh and one of the most important in South Asia. Shah Jalal (1271–1346) was a Sufi saint from Turkestan who is credited with introducing Islam to the Sylhet region in the early 14th century. His shrine draws millions of devotees annually who come to seek spiritual blessings, healing, and guidance. The complex includes his tomb, a mosque, and sacred catfish ponds. Sylhet International Airport is named after him.
