💀 Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church)
Czech Republic
About This Sacred Site
The Sedlec Ossuary, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints in Kutná Hora, is a small Roman Catholic chapel famously decorated with the skeletal remains of between 40,000 and 70,000 people. In 1870, woodcarver František Rint was hired to organize the bones, creating chandeliers, coats of arms, and garlands entirely from human remains. The bones date largely from the 14th-century Black Death and the 15th-century Hussite Wars.
