About This Sacred Site
Strahov Monastery, founded in 1143, overlooks Prague from the hill adjacent to Prague Castle. It is one of the oldest Premonstratensian monasteries in the world and is especially famous for its two magnificent Baroque library halls β the Theological Hall (1679) and the Philosophical Hall (1794) β with painted ceilings and thousands of ancient volumes. The monastery also houses a gallery of Gothic and Baroque art and the Strahov Brewery.
