⛪ Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral
Chile
About This Sacred Site
Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral stands on the Plaza de Armas, the historic heart of Chile's capital. The current neoclassical structure, designed by Italian architect Joaquín Toesca and completed in 1800, is the fifth church built on this site since Santiago's founding in 1541. The interior features three naves with Baroque altarpieces, a richly decorated sacristy, and the tombs of Chilean bishops and statesmen. It remains the seat of the Archbishop of Santiago and Chile's most important church.
