About This Sacred Site
Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) is the principal church of the Archdiocese of Salzburg and a masterpiece of early Baroque architecture north of the Alps. The current structure, completed in 1628, was modeled on Italian churches by architect Santino Solari. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized here in 1756 and later served as the cathedral's organist. The cathedral's facade with its twin towers frames the Domplatz, where the Salzburg Festival's Jedermann play is performed annually.
