About This Sacred Site
The Holy Dormition Pochayiv Lavra is a fortified monastery in western Ukraine's Ternopil region and the second most important Orthodox monastery in Ukraine after Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Founded in 1240, it is famous for its wonder-working Pochayiv icon of the Mother of God and a rock bearing an impression said to be the footprint of the Virgin Mary.
