About This Sacred Site
The Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is one of the last remaining primary high forests in southern Nigeria. Situated along the banks of the Osun River on the outskirts of Osogbo, it is dedicated to Osun, the Yoruba goddess of fertility, water, and love. The grove contains shrines, sculptures, and artworks honoring Osun and other Yoruba deities. An annual festival draws tens of thousands of worshippers and spectators and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
