About This Sacred Site
Mount Kailash in western Tibet is one of the most sacred mountains in the world, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of BΓΆn. Hindus believe it is the abode of Lord Shiva, while Buddhists associate it with Buddha Demchok. The mountain has never been climbed β out of respect for its spiritual significance. Pilgrims perform a kora (circumambulation) of 52 kilometers around the mountain, which Hindus believe erases the sins of a lifetime.
