About This Sacred Site
Medjugorje is a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina (near the Croatian border) that became a major Catholic pilgrimage site after six local children reported seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary beginning on June 24, 1981. Despite the Vatican not formally declaring the apparitions supernatural, millions of pilgrims visit each year, many reporting spiritual healing and conversion. St. James Parish Church, Apparition Hill, and Cross Mountain are the principal sites of devotion.
