Beopjusa Temple on Mount Songnisan is one of South Korea's most important Buddhist temples, renowned for its 33-meter golden Maitreya Buddha statue β€” the tallest in Korea β€” and the Palsangjeon, the only remaining wooden five-story pagoda in the country. Founded in 553 CE during the Silla dynasty, the temple once housed 3,000 monks and 60 buildings.
