Beopjusa Temple on Mount Songnisan is one of South Korea's most important Buddhist temples, renowned for its 33-meter golden Maitreya Buddha statue β the tallest in Korea β and the Palsangjeon, the only remaining wooden five-story pagoda in the country. Founded in 553 CE during the Silla dynasty, the temple once housed 3,000 monks and 60 buildings. Part of the UNESCO 'Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea,' it sits in the scenic Songnisan National Park.
