About This Sacred Site
Auschwitz-Birkenau, located near Oświęcim in southern Poland, is the largest of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camps. Between 1940 and 1945, over 1.1 million people — the vast majority European Jews — were murdered here. Today the site is preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage memorial and museum.
