⛪ St. Mary's Basilica (Kraków)
Poland
About This Sacred Site
St. Mary's Basilica dominates the Main Market Square of Kraków with its two asymmetrical towers. The taller tower features the famous Hejnał — a trumpet call played every hour by a bugler, cut short mid-note to commemorate a 13th-century watchman shot while warning of a Mongol attack. Inside, the wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss between 1477 and 1489 is the largest Gothic altarpiece in the world and a masterpiece of late-medieval art.
