St Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk is one of the oldest stone structures in Belarus and one of three original St Sophia cathedrals built in the Kievan Rus period, alongside those in Kyiv and Novgorod. Originally constructed between 1044 and 1066, it was rebuilt in Baroque style in the 18th century. The cathedral symbolizes the deep spiritual and cultural roots of the Belarusian people.
