About This Sacred Site

The Mustafa Pasha Mosque is one of the largest and most beautiful Ottoman-era mosques in the Balkans, built in 1492 by Mustafa Pasha, a vizier of Sultan Bayezid II. Located within the old Kale Fortress area of Skopje, the mosque features a large central dome, elegant portico, and beautiful interior calligraphy. The mosque survived the devastating 1963 earthquake that destroyed much of Skopje and stands as a testament to Ottoman architectural mastery.
