The Royal and Pontifical Basilica Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in León is the largest cathedral in Central America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built between 1747 and 1814, its massive Baroque-Neoclassical structure features an immense white rooftop that dominates the León skyline. The cathedral houses the tomb of Rubén Darío, the father of the Modernist literary movement and Nicaragua's most beloved poet.
