The Jesuit Mission of La Santísima Trinidad del Paraná is the best-preserved of the Jesuit reductions in South America, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Founded in 1706, the mission was part of the Jesuit experiment to create self-sufficient indigenous communities. The impressive ruins include a massive church, indigenous housing blocks, and remarkably preserved stone carvings showing the blend of European Baroque and Guaraní artistic traditions.
