The Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf is one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam, containing the tomb of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad. Ali is revered as the first Imam by Shia Muslims and the fourth Caliph by Sunni Muslims. The mosque features a stunning golden dome and is surrounded by one of the world's largest cemeteries, Wadi-us-Salaam, as many Muslims wish to be buried near Imam Ali. It has been rebuilt multiple times throughout history.
