About This Sacred Site
Hala Sultan Tekke is one of the most important Muslim pilgrimage sites in the world, located on the shores of Larnaca Salt Lake. The mosque and tekke were built around the tomb of Umm Haram, the maternal aunt and foster mother of Prophet Muhammad, who died in a fall from a mule during the Arab raids on Cyprus in 647 CE. The complex is surrounded by ancient palm trees and holds significance for Muslims worldwide.
