About This Sacred Site
The Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque is the largest and most important historical mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina, built in 1531 by the Ottoman architect Acem Esir Ali. The complex includes a madrasa, a clock tower, and a covered market (bezistan). It served as the cultural and spiritual heart of Sarajevo throughout the Ottoman period and remains the city's most prominent Islamic landmark.
