⛪ Christuskirche Windhoek
Namibia
About This Sacred Site
The Christuskirche (Christ Church) is Windhoek's most recognizable landmark, a German Lutheran church completed in 1910 during the colonial era. Built from local sandstone in a blend of Art Nouveau and Gothic Revival styles, the church was dedicated as a monument of peace following the Herero and Nama Wars. Its stained glass windows, imported from Germany, and distinctive neo-Romanesque tower make it an architectural gem. While its history is intertwined with colonialism, the church has evolved into a symbol of reconciliation and serves an active Evangelical Lutheran congregation in independent Namibia.
