🌴 Buada Lagoon Sacred Site
Nauru
About This Sacred Site
Buada Lagoon is a landlocked freshwater lagoon in the interior of Nauru, the island's only significant body of fresh water. In traditional Nauruan spirituality, the lagoon held deep sacred significance as a source of life on the otherwise arid coral island. The surrounding Buada district, the most fertile area on Nauru, was considered spiritually important, and the lagoon was associated with creation stories and ancestral spirits. It remains a culturally significant site for the Nauruan people.
