About This Sacred Site
Bahla Fort is a massive mud-brick fortification in the interior of Oman, dating primarily to the 13th and 14th centuries under the Nabhani dynasty. The fort contains an integrated mosque and is surrounded by a 12-kilometer-long wall enclosing the old oasis settlement. Bahla has long been associated with mysticism and is known in Omani tradition as a center of spiritual knowledge and jinn legends. It was the first site in Oman to be inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
