About This Sacred Site
Al-Bidya Mosque in Fujairah is believed to be the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, dating back to the 15th century. The small mud-brick and stone structure features four irregular domes supported by an internal pillar, creating a distinctive architectural form. Unlike the grand modern mosques of the UAE, Al-Bidya's simplicity reflects the traditional building methods of the region. The mosque is still used for daily prayers and is surrounded by archaeological remains including two watchtowers.
