🏴☠️ Port Royal
Jamaica
About This Sacred Site
Port Royal was the largest and wealthiest city in the Caribbean before an earthquake plunged two-thirds of it into the sea in 1692, an event widely interpreted as divine punishment for the city's wickedness. The surviving St Peter's Church dates to 1725 and contains artifacts from the submerged city. Port Royal's destruction remains one of history's most dramatic examples of catastrophe interpreted through a spiritual lens.
