🏔️ Monte Titano
San Marino
About This Sacred Site
Monte Titano is the 739-meter peak upon which the Republic of San Marino was founded, a UNESCO World Heritage Site representing over 1,700 years of continuous self-governance. According to tradition, the stonemason Marinus fled to this mountain in 301 CE to escape religious persecution and established a small Christian community. The three iconic towers along the ridgeline have become symbols of freedom, and the mountain itself embodies the spiritual ideal of a sanctuary from oppression.
