🔺 Meroe Pyramids
Sudan
About This Sacred Site
The Pyramids of Meroe are the burial sites of the kings and queens of the ancient Nubian Kingdom of Kush, which ruled from approximately 300 BCE to 350 CE. Located in the desert of eastern Sudan, over 200 pyramids rise from the sand — more than in all of Egypt. The pyramids served as tombs and temples for the dead, reflecting the Kushite belief in an afterlife. Built with steep sides and elaborate chapel structures, they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testament to Africa's ancient spiritual civilizations.
