The Kong Mosque is the principal mosque in the historic city of Kong in northern Ivory Coast. Kong was a major Dyula trading center and one of the most important centers of Islamic learning in West Africa from the 17th to the 19th century. The mosque, built in the distinctive Sudano-Sahelian style with mud-brick walls and protruding wooden beams, reflects the deep Islamic heritage of the Dyula people. Kong's scholars and traders spread Islam throughout the forest regions of West Africa.
