The Philae Temple complex, dedicated to the goddess Isis, was one of the last places where ancient Egyptian religion was practiced, with the temple remaining active until 550 CE — centuries after Rome had adopted Christianity. Originally located on Philae Island, the entire complex was meticulously relocated to nearby Agilkia Island in the 1960s and 1970s to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. The temple was the center of the cult of Isis, whose worship spread throughout the Roman Empire.
