About This Sacred Site

The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal is one of the most stunning churches in North America, renowned for its dramatic Gothic Revival architecture and breathtaking polychrome interior. Designed by Irish-American architect James O'Donnell and completed in 1829, the interior bursts with deep blues, azures, reds, purples, and gold leaf. The Casavant Frères organ, with its 7,000 pipes, is one of the largest in North America. The basilica hosted the state funeral of Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 2000 and the wedding of Celine Dion in 1994. Its AURA light show, projecting artwork onto the interior, has become a major attraction.
