About This Sacred Site
Dougga (ancient Thugga) is the best-preserved Roman small town in North Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched on a hilltop in northwestern Tunisia, the site features a magnificent Capitol temple dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, as well as temples to Saturn, Mercury, Concordia, and other deities. The town also preserves a Numidian mausoleum from pre-Roman times, demonstrating the layering of indigenous Berber, Punic, and Roman spiritual traditions.
