About This Sacred Site
Djémila (ancient Cuicul) is one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated at 900 meters in the mountains of northern Algeria, the town features remarkably preserved temples to Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn, as well as one of the earliest Christian baptistries in the region. The transition from pagan temples to Christian churches visible in the ruins tells the story of spiritual transformation in Roman North Africa.
