About This Sacred Site

Mount Olympus in northern Greece is the highest mountain in the country at 2,917 meters and was believed by the ancient Greeks to be the home of the Twelve Olympian Gods, with Zeus sitting on the highest peak (Mytikas). For millennia, the mountain was considered sacred and unapproachable. The ancient Greeks built temples and held festivals in honor of the gods they believed dwelled on its cloud-covered summit. Today it remains a symbol of Greek heritage and spirituality.
